Langara College celebrates 16 years of Fast Forward Educational Media Showcase

iheartvancouverDuring its 16th annual event, the Fast Forward Educational Media Showcase will invite public and special librarians, educators and school administrators, business, health, public and private sector trainers and educational media distributors for just one purpose: "one stop shopping" to preview DVDs, videos, CDs and other media in order to make better purchasing decisions. An estimated $1.5 million dollars is spent each year on media in British Columbia for educational purposes.

Sixteen distributors from across Canada will bring their products to view at the largest event of its kind in Canada for easy access to all prospective buyers. Distributors include CBC, CinĂ©FĂȘte, Distribution Access, Filmwest, Moving Images and National Film Board, to name just a few.

ffViewed as the largest showcase of its kind in Canada, Fast Forward is sponsored by Langara College's Advanced Education Media Acquisitions Centre (AEMAC) in collaboration with a diverse Advisory Committee, made up of representatives from the media industry, the Media Exchange Cooperative (post-secondary media representatives), and ERAC, the Educational Resource Acquisition Consortium, and AEMAC, the Advanced Education Media Acquisitions Centre (located at Langara College). The venue for the event is the Capilano College Sportsplex, scheduled for April 29 and April 30, 2009. Last year, 227 participants from all over the province evaluated the products and nominated them for purchase in their school districts and post-secondary institutions.

Participants say: "Fast Forward Media Showcase is another of the many innovative undertakings that AEMAC has sponsored. The showcase allows us to preview over 150 titles every year, most of them of local and Canadian content. AEMAC continues to look to the future, now has implemented digital licensing and delivery."
